In the midst of the hustle and heat, Mike Phillips brought a duffle bag full of inspiration to New York City from inside the Apple store. Amongst the large crowd, Mr. Phillips put on what turned out to be not just a musically superior jazz show but also a lesson in the importance of keeping music programs alive in our schools. Local NYC high school students joined Mike on stage for a couple of songs, adding to the inspiring feel of the performance. The crowd came alive as Mr. Phillips fused jazz and hip hop.
The message of music as a force which unites was understood when watching the crowd of 8 to 80 year olds glow with the satisfaction of knowing that they were sharing a special experience. As I watched Mike Phillips walk around the space and interact with the crowd, I couldn’t help but be proud of the Apple store for creating such an intelligent and necessary platform for this event to take place. The much anticipated newest installment to the Unwrapped series was highlighted in the best, most organic way. It received the attention that it deserves and I can’t wait to buy it!!!!
Don’t miss Mike Phillips LIVE at the Apple Store celebrating Black Music Month’s Hometown Heroes.
