Reviewing the CD “Never Forget,” I find myself reminiscent of the 60’s, while simultaneously embracing today’s hip-hop culture. Never Forget bridges the gap between the young people I strive to understand and my age group. It appears they are no different then I was as a youth.

If there is a difference between us it is in the vulgarity employed in the lyrics of the music today. Even that I understand as mounting frustration and a lack of my generation’s attention to the social / economic injustices that continue to exhaust us daily. Although I am sympathetic to their frustration, I cannot excuse the use of words that demean ones character and self- esteem. Perhaps education, attention and love will cure this syndrome.

Nevertheless, Keep’in it PI, Dr. West, you have mindfully created a work of art that speaks to the social consciousness of America while fusing the minds and healing the hearts of both young and old.

May God strengthen and encourage you, as your endeavors unfold!
